Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between wet-look and natural-look sealers, and which should I choose?
Wet-look sealers create a glossy, darker appearance that makes your pavers look freshly rained on, dramatically enhancing color depth and richness. Natural-look sealers provide the same protection but maintain your pavers' original matte appearance with subtle color enhancement. The choice is largely aesthetic preference - wet-look is popular for driveways and pool decks where a dramatic, finished look is desired, while natural-look works well for patios and walkways where you want protection without changing the appearance. We're happy to show you samples of both finishes on your actual pavers before you decide. Both options provide equal protection against stains, UV fading, and weed growth.
How long does the paver sealing process take, and when can I use my driveway again?
The complete paver sealing process typically takes 2-3 days. Day one involves thorough pressure washing and stain treatment to remove all dirt, algae, and old sealer residue. We then allow 24-48 hours for pavers to dry completely - this is critical because sealing damp pavers traps moisture and causes the sealer to turn white or fail prematurely. On the final day, we apply polymeric sand to joints (which prevents weed growth and ant hills) and apply the sealer in thin, even coats. You can walk on sealed pavers after 24 hours and drive on them after 48-72 hours. We'll provide exact timing based on weather conditions, as humidity and temperature affect cure times.
Why do my pavers look faded and white, and will sealing fix this?
The white, chalky appearance on pavers is called efflorescence - it's caused by mineral salts migrating to the surface as moisture evaporates through the paver material. This is completely normal, especially in newer pavers or after heavy rain. Before sealing, we thoroughly clean your pavers to remove existing efflorescence and apply treatments to minimize future occurrence. Sealing creates a barrier that significantly reduces moisture penetration, which limits efflorescence and restores your pavers' original vibrant color. However, if pavers have been severely sun-bleached over many years, sealing will enhance what color remains but cannot restore original pigment. We'll assess your pavers and give you realistic expectations during your free estimate.
What is polymeric sand, and why is it important for paver sealing?
Polymeric sand is a specially engineered joint sand that contains polymer additives which activate when exposed to water, binding the sand particles together into a firm, flexible mass. Unlike regular sand that washes out, blows away, and allows weeds and ants to invade, polymeric sand stays locked in place and creates a barrier against organic growth and insects. We apply polymeric sand to all joints before sealing as part of our standard process. It hardens within 24 hours and remains flexible enough to accommodate minor paver movement without cracking. This dramatically reduces maintenance - you won't be constantly fighting weeds growing between pavers or dealing with ant hills erupting through joints. The combination of polymeric sand and quality sealer creates a unified, protected surface that looks great and requires minimal upkeep for years.
How do I maintain my sealed pavers, and when will they need to be resealed?
Sealed pavers are remarkably low-maintenance compared to unsealed surfaces. For regular upkeep, simply sweep away debris and rinse with a garden hose as needed - most spills and stains will wipe right off the sealed surface rather than penetrating the paver. Avoid using harsh chemicals or pressure washing, which can degrade the sealer prematurely. Most quality sealers last 3-5 years in Florida's climate, though high-traffic areas like the bottom of driveways may show wear sooner. Signs it's time to reseal include: water no longer beads on the surface, colors appear faded, or you notice weeds returning in joints. Maintenance resealing is faster and more affordable than initial sealing since we're not starting from scratch. We recommend scheduling a resealing assessment every 2-3 years, and we keep records of all our customers' properties so we can proactively remind you when it's time.
